a practical way to use one of the modes. this one, is known as mixolydian and it is played over A7, so it would be known as A mixolydian. I give an example on how to combine it with the blues and pentatonic scales.

I got a bachelor’s in music from the college of santa fe. Learned a lot and had some great guitar teachers. I also took lessons with joe diorio who you should check out.

just curious if you were formally trained or not?
not like it matters but the way you teach sounds like your relaying how it was taught to you….another words, your a good explainer.

I think when I use my fingers I pluck it hard, I think that’s what you are referring to.

Thanks for all your help. Your videos are amazing. What is the advantage of holding the pick with your thumb and your middle finger(instead of the index finger) if i may ask?

Awesome lesson, I have been back to watch this video about 10 times so far to try and pick out some ‘tasty’ licks once I got the concept down. I did have one question- I notice that you accent some of the notes and it sounds like you are almost spanking the note, heh- can you explain more about accents and possibly do another follow up video on the same subject as this one with more of you just playing this mixolydian-blues combo and just talking about what you are doing? Thanks!! Eric

I don’t have the guitar here, so I’m not sure at 100%, but sounds like a blues scale with both 3° min and 3° maj.
Nice to combine with dominant pentatonic and so mixolidian.
Nice phrasing! 5 stars

Stellar lesson man.
I should hace started with this one. I’m really looking to modal playing as a way to force myself out of pentatonic and blues scales. This is a great lesson to build that bridge. THANKS!

Marty, nice job, this should help many beginners, but also help more advance guitar players who may get caught in a cetain groove/pattern rut and need to go back to the basics.

Nice Bullshit-free lesson!!! Cool riffs too! Good to see someone putting the scales into practice rather than just showing boring formulas.
