Hi, I’m Dave Weiner. I’m a Favored Nations recording artist, a G.I.T. graduate and have been playing in Steve Vai’s band since 1999.

Every Wednesday I do a new Riff Of The Week™ guitar education video. Here’s Season 4, Episode 1 “Getcha Groove On!”

Don’t forget to view the tab, listen to the audio clips and download the backing tracks (when applicable) for this ROTW at: www.daveweiner.com/rotw.

You can find Hi-RES HD versions of this video at riffoftheweek.com or by subscribing (for free) to the ROTW podcast in ITunes (search Dave Weiner).

Interested in my music? My first cd “Shove The Sun Aside” is available on iTunes, Amazon and at www.daveweiner.com/store

Like this lesson? Want to learn more? How about a live, one on one, internet guitar lesson with me? www.daveweiner.com/lessons

Got a suggestion for a ROTW? Email it to rotw@daveweiner.com

Thanks for visiting. Enjoy!

Dave

!!! I’ve started doing this and it really helped my accuracy and thereby my speed !!! I think more guitarists should do this. My main man Jimi Hendrix would be playing lead, rhythm, and singing at the same time. This post made me think of him.

Dave this was one of your best lessons, ive been watching since episode 1 and I want to tell you that your lessons have played a huge role in my guitar playing, thanks to you I have become a better musician, and we are now being looked at, possibly signing a contract with a lable. What is on the bottom of your headstock? I assume it holds picks, but what is it?

Hey Dave, any chance that you might be doing some more theoretical lessons soon? I got into your videos because of your lessons on the modes, but how about something about when to use diminished and augmented chords, stuff like that?

Loved this video, by the way.

    Awesome man!

When I think of “groove” playing, I think of you and Guthrie Govan.

You, especially, hit the pocket perfectly.

Amazing lesson. I don’t think I’ve ever improved my style so much in 4 and a half minutes. I saw this at work and couldn’t wait to get home to try it out.
