How come whenever I play these scales they don’t sound nearly as soulful and professional as this?!

Major pentatonics need a major feel to work over, so major chords. If you had a minor progression in the usual 1,4,5 blues format using minor chords then the minor pentatonic would be better to use, although blues has a simple structure which means you can great results from mixing major and minor feel like BB king does.
dont forget that penta simply means five, and that penta-tonic means five notes/tones, so a pentatonic is only a shortened scale from the major/minor scale.

Thanks! That’s a great lesson. But actually, I want to “hat’s off” that gorgeous Heritage guitar. Man, that is B-eautiful.. I was going to ask if I can have it when you die but you’re much younger than me so.. Can I have it before you die? Envy admitted.. smiles.

WOW – Just saved me HOURS learning to get that major pentatonic down smooth. For anyone else using the CAGED system – this just puts you into the G Form of a chord, but using the E Form minor pentatonic (the one we all know how to play in A on the fifth fret.) Seems like this will save a ton of time – Thanks again!

I think Marty did some of that in a previous lesson relating to BB King licks. There are definately some creative ways to mix the major and minor that can sound good.

I’ve actually bought a loop-station about a week ago. I do recommend the RC-20 instead of the RC-2 bcuz it has much easier controls.
    They’re awesome stuff.
